MUKS DIED
Interviewed by Jesse Geltch for THE COCOON

    1. For those unfamiliar, introduce yourself. Who are you? What kind of music do you make? How long have you been making music?

My names Muks died I’m an artist outta New Zealand, just got deported from Australia so I was originally based there in Perth. Got done for a drill so I did some time over there and they ended up sending me back. I make all types of music I base the musics vibe off the emotions I’m feeling and the shit that I’m going through at the time.

    2. You have a very distinct sound, what inspired it?

Well I listen to all types of music young thug and lil durk are my favorite rappers but with other shit I like suicide silence like the old suicide silence with Mitch , Job for a cowboy, Slipkot. I been bumping heaps of Corbin and Lil bo weep lately (RIP WINONA) she had such a beautiful soul. We use to talk before I got locked up and shit she passed when I was inside. Miss that angel.

    3. I know you are originally from New Zealand, but I remember finding out about you when your music started buzzing in Australia back in 2018/19. How old were you when you came to Australia?

Yeah bro I’m from Druganui aka Murder capital I moved to Australia when I was like 10-11 I actually just got left in Australia by my parents lol they told me I was going for a holiday and next thing I know I was living there. But tbh I was getting into a trouble with gangs and graffiti and shit most my homies from back then are dead now so I’d probably be there to if I didn’t move.

    4. As an outsider looking in, the New Zealand and Australian scenes often feel quite disconnected, how do you feel about that statement? What is your opinion on the topic?

There is definitely a divide between the scenes, it’s disappointing to be honest cause there are so many talent artists in both scenes. We need to unify cause at the end of the day we all on the same mission. I actually made it bigger in Australia before the New Zealand scene even accepted me as one of theirs. That’s when I noticed the divide the most. But I got a lot of love for both countries I actually have lived longer in Australia then New Zealand.

    5. How do you stay motivated? You have been putting out track after track since you got back, how do you keep up?

Man it’s like I ain’t really got a choice where I’m at in life like out here in the trenches and shit there ain’t to many options. I got this rap shit, gang banging, trapping, jail or death. I’m honestly just tryna help people see the world from my eyes, And voice the the things people are to afraid to touch on but it’s all a reality where I come from and live. The fact I don’t have many other choices keeps me motivated and if this rap shit don’t work then it’s back to sliding hahahha.

    6. Do you ever suffer from writers block or go through periods where you lack creativity? What helps you in these moments?

Na man I don’t really get writers block aye I mean I been through so much shit in my life and seen a lot so I just talk about that. Also if I’m gona be honest I’ve always suffered from mental health issues and addiction and stuff so most of the time I use it as an outlet of expression to get that shit out of my head. I think that’s what’s missing these days in music. People are capping in all their music when they don’t realise being authentic is the biggest part of being an artist. Like we are all different for a reason I think people should tell their own stories instead of following trends. That shits icky as lol

    7. You have been quite open and public about your recovery journey, how has your experience been? Any advice to anyone else who is struggling?

Recovery is a long journey and you have to be ready like actually ready or it will never work you can’t force yourself or anyone else into recovery. I think about it like if you hold a water bottle for two minutes it’s Allgoods like it’s easy to hold. After a two hours that water bottle is getting heavier, and after days and weeks and years of holding that water bottle up your arm is gona fuckin break. That water bottle is trauma and once you’re ready to pick it up and throw it away will be the day the recovery becomes the easiest. Also it’s okay to ask for help, reach out to organisations and stuff but most importantly reach out to your friends and family if you can. Having good people around you supporting you of so essential.

    8. I spotted a few stories mentioning some cases and the potential of going to prison. I am sure the fans want to know should they be worried?

Jail is always a thing I gotta worry about, it ain’t some where I wana be but if I go back then I go back. I’m doing the best I can to stay out of trouble but my block is active and we’re all just products of environment.

    9. Your image is just as iconic as your sound. I feel like you were one of the early ones pushing a more individual style while everyone was in their lad era. Any fashion tips for the kids at home? How does Muks put an outfit together?

I only wear black. It’s the only colour I feel comfortable in. If I wear colourful shit I just feel unnatural. I always been a emo cunt and bumped metal and shit but I’m from the hood so my style is like a mixture between both. I ain’t one for following trends. My advice would be to be yourself. Don’t just got buy and wear something cause someone else is. Experiment with different shit to until you find something you feel comfortable in. Oh and if you wana buy some killers clothes hit up KIDVEAN and REDWATER lol.

    10. What artists do you look up to? Rap or otherwise, what sounds stick out as influences in your music?

I think I find my biggest influence from lil durk. Being the voice of the streets. Talking about real shit that happens out here. I’m tryna do the same be the voice of the voiceless.

    11. The scene in Australia has changed a fair bit over the years, what do you think of the current trends?

Bro tbh I don’t know how I feel about it, everyone is just tryna do uk dril shit atm it’s getting abit played out. But it’s does make everyone else stand out abit more. It’s the same here in New Zealand everyone just jumps on the next man’s shit. Fuck that rap about your life not someone else’s.

    12. Who should we be keeping our eyes on? What up and comers have you been excited to see doing their thing?

Go check out my demons in the 36k our other names are TSK 666k and DEMONGANG. All my brothers are talented as fuck you guys gotta watch out cause it’s demon season we out here.

    13. What’s next on the horizon for you? Can we get any spoilers?

I been offered a few record deals so I’m just tryna decide if I should continue to be independent or sign to a label. I got a few big colabs coming so keep an eye out for those. With like life shit I’m on parole so I can’t leave Druganui and shit but once I can I’m gone be back on the road I got a 99 year ban from Australia so I can’t come back there but I’m defiantly going to be traveling around working. Just expect to see a lot of music and shit I got hundreds of unreleased songs and I ain’t gone stop making them anytime soon.

    14. Who would you want to collab with if you had the opportunity?

Probably king von. I feel like me and suicideboys would make some really good music. Actually bro it would probably be Young thug. That cunts a God.

    15. What else should we know that we don’t? Do you have any secret talents or anything you have kept to yourself?

I am what I am. What you see is what you get. As above so below. TSK 666k 36K DEMONGANG4L.
